Onward and Upward: Promotions, Leadership, and Growth for 2026

A new year often brings fresh starts, bold goals, and exciting growth, and for Ashley, January marks all three. Stepping into her new role as Recreational School-Age Manager, Ashley is leading with energy, heart, and a clear motto for the year ahead: “Onward and upward!”

What excites her most about this new chapter? The opportunity to share new ideas, grow alongside her team, and continue building something meaningful at TNT. Ashley sees this promotion as more than a title; it’s a reflection of trust, teamwork, and years of effort paying off. “It meant people valued my ideas and believed in what I could bring to the program,” she shares.

Ashley credits TNT’s Leadership Program as a key part of her journey, helping her gain confidence in leading meetings, presenting ideas, and navigating the challenges that come with management. Along the way, she’s been supported by mentors who made a lasting impact, especially Malana, the Preschool Lead, who trained alongside her, and Kim, TNT’s CEO, who helped Ashley find her footing early on and grow both professionally and personally.

As a leader, Ashley is most excited about the responsibility that comes with guiding the school-age gymnastics program. She loves being a go-to resource for her team while staying grounded in the fact that she once stood exactly where they are now. That relatability, paired with her passion for growth, creates a supportive environment for both staff and athletes.

At the heart of everything Ashley does is her commitment to the kids. She hopes to be a trusted adult and positive influence, someone athletes can turn to for support, encouragement, or a simple boost on a tough day. Families should know that Ashley truly cares about every child in her classes and is always open to conversations to ensure each athlete feels confident, supported, and excited to be at TNT.

Outside the gym, Ashley’s “New Year superpower” would be super speed, perfect for a future filled with travel adventures. When it’s time to recharge, you’ll find her logging onto Fortnite with her childhood best friend or diving into Hogwarts Legacy, revealing a fun gamer side her athletes may not expect.

Looking ahead, Ashley is most excited about watching her athletes grow, especially the moment when a long-practiced skill finally clicks. Her advice for athletes starting a new season? Don’t give up. Stay focused, keep pushing forward, and trust that your goals are closer than you think.

As 2026 unfolds, Ashley is cheering on her athletes as they work toward new skills, new challenges, and even the competitive team this spring. With her leadership, passion, and belief in growth, there’s no doubt this year is moving and soaring, onward and upward.

Winter Wellness: Keeping Kids Active When It Is Cold Outside

         Active Kids Equals Happy Kids

At TNT Kids Fitness and Gymnastics, we know that winter in North Dakota can feel long. Shorter days, colder temperatures, and more time indoors can make it harder for kids to stay active. But movement is just as important in the winter months as it is during the rest of the year. In fact, staying active during winter can support both physical health and emotional wellbeing when routines and energy levels often shift.

Why Exercise Matters More in Winter

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity helps children build strong muscles and bones, improve balance and coordination, and support heart health. During winter, exercise also plays a key role in mental health. Movement helps regulate mood, reduce stress, and boost confidence, all of which can be impacted by limited daylight and less outdoor play.

When kids move their bodies, their brains benefit too. Physical activity has been linked to improved focus, better sleep, and stronger academic performance. Even short bursts of movement throughout the week can make a meaningful difference.

Common Winter Challenges for Staying Active

Winter often brings unique obstacles for families. Cold weather can limit outdoor play. Snow days can disrupt routines. Screen time can increase as kids spend more hours indoors. While these challenges are normal, they can lead to decreased activity if families do not have intentional plans in place.

The good news is that kids do not need large spaces or perfect conditions to stay active. What they need most is consistency, encouragement, and opportunities that feel fun and engaging.

Simple Ways Families Can Keep Kids Moving

           Create a movement routine

Consistency helps kids know what to expect. Scheduling activity days or times during the week can make movement a natural part of the routine rather than an afterthought.

           Make movement playful

Kids are more likely to stay active when it feels like play. Obstacle courses, balance challenges, dance breaks, and imaginative games can all encourage movement without it feeling like exercise.

           Use indoor spaces creatively

Living rooms, hallways, and basements can become mini gyms. Simple equipment like mats, cones, or foam blocks can turn small spaces into active environments.

           Celebrate effort, not perfection

Winter activity does not need to look perfect. Encouraging effort and participation helps build confidence and long term healthy habits.

How TNT Helps Kids Stay Active All Winter Long

At TNT, we are committed to helping kids thrive year round, no matter the season. Our programs are designed to keep kids moving in safe, structured, and supportive environments.

Through gymnastics, ninja, fitness, and adaptive programs, children build strength, coordination, and confidence while having fun. Our coaches focus on progress, encouragement, and inclusion, helping every child feel successful.

We also understand that winter can affect motivation. That is why our classes emphasize energy, connection, and positivity. Kids leave not only stronger physically, but more confident emotionally.

Supporting Healthy Habits Beyond the Gym

What happens at TNT can extend into everyday life. When kids experience positive movement environments, they are more likely to stay active at home, at school, and with friends. Families can reinforce this by asking kids what they learned in class, practicing skills together, or simply cheering them on.

Winter does not have to mean slowing down. With the right support and opportunities, it can be a season of growth, strength, and confidence.

At TNT Kids Fitness and Gymnastics, we are proud to be part of that journey, helping kids move, grow, and thrive all winter long.

Hero Behind the Present: Noah - Code Name Mr. NO-one’s AHungry

This December, TNT’s holiday magic has a special glow—and that glow comes straight from Noah, our Hero Behind the Present. While most superheroes fly or shoot lasers, Noah’s holiday superpower is far more heartwarming: as Mr. NO-one’s AHungry, he dreams of a world where everyone enjoys a delicious meal during the season of giving. And if that doesn’t light up your spirits, here's a fun little fact for you, he relates most to the Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story because, as he proudly says, “I can really light up a room.”

For Noah, the holidays are built on memories that stick with you; not because of the gifts, but because of the laughter. His favorite childhood moment? Waking his brother on Christmas morning, only to watch him immediately collapse because his foot had fallen asleep. Followed by both boys racing (and limping) downstairs to see what Santa brought. He may not remember the presents, but he’ll never forget that thud against the carpet.

Family tradition runs deep in Noah’s world. Each Christmas Eve, his dad reads the beloved Grand Forks Herald story, “It’s Christmas Eve and I must go home.” The tradition brings tears, connection, and memories of loved ones who are no longer here; a tradition Noah plans to carry forward for generations.

At TNT, Noah brings that same thoughtful spirit to the students he leads. Through seasonal mindsets like “I am thankful” and “I am generous,” he helps kids discover the meaning of gratitude, empathy, and giving. One of his funniest holiday memories? A student needing 15 full minutes to put away winter gear because he couldn’t stop admiring the TNT Christmas tree (showing it off at least 25 times).

In true holiday hero fashion, Noah’s greatest gifts are the ones you can’t wrap:

          — a safe space for kids to feel seen

          — the encouragement to be their authentic selves

          — and the joy he brings into every room he walks into

When he reflects on gratitude this season, Noah is thankful for the trust his students place in him and the incredible life he’s building with his fiancée. And his holiday hero? His mom, the woman who filled his childhood with warmth, wonder, and the kind of compassion he now pours into every child he serves.

This holiday season, we’re grateful for Noah! His humor, his heart, and the light he brings to every child, every family, and every ordinary moment that he somehow turns extraordinary.

Hero Behind the Cape: Ashley Hilliard - Code Name The Chameleon

The Chameleon of Coaching: adapting, inspiring, and thriving with every routine

Every great team has that one hero who can adjust, adapt, and bring out the best in everyone around them, and at TNT, that’s Ashley Hilliard. Known by her superhero name, The Chameleon, Ashley has the remarkable ability to mesh seamlessly with any group or situation, creating an atmosphere where both athletes and coaches can shine.

Ashley’s journey in gymnastics began long before her coaching days. Growing up in the sport and watching her older sister coach, Ashley knew she wanted to stay connected to the sport she loved even after her time as a competitive athlete came to an end. Coaching became her way to give back, and today, she’s helping the next generation of gymnasts discover their own strength, discipline, and confidence.

As TNT’s Developmental Gymnastics Lead, Ashley works with athletes in a phase where growth happens fast: physically, mentally, and emotionally. “I love watching them mature as humans and athletes,” she shared. “The developmental athletes are learning and growing so quickly, and it’s fun to watch them turn into great little athletes.”

Her coaching philosophy centers on one powerful idea: growth through mindset. Ashley often reminds her athletes that the brain is a powerful tool; one that can shape outcomes and build confidence. “You have to fail to move forward,” she says. “We don’t want to stay the same; we want to always be improving.” It’s a message that fuels her gymnasts not just on the floor, but in life.

This November, as the season of gratitude unfolds, Ashley’s heart is full. She’s thankful for her family, especially her husband, who steps in at home so she can pursue her passion in the gym, and for her TNT team. “Everyone works well together and coaches for the betterment of the team,” she said. “Watching our athletes learn to harness their nerves and thrive under pressure is my favorite part.”

Whether it’s cheering on her gymnasts, sipping a white Monster between rotations, or visiting the pumpkin patch with her family, Ashley radiates balance, joy, and leadership. Her recent experience in TNT’s Leadership Development Program gave her even deeper insight into the business and team side of TNT, further strengthening her role as a mentor and leader.

For Ashley, working at TNT in November feels like excitement and nerves: the buzz of meet season paired with the pride of seeing her athletes’ hard work come to life. And just like The Chameleon she embodies, Ashley continues to adapt, inspire, and guide with grace, proving that real superheroes don’t always wear capes… sometimes, they wear chalk and a smile.

Rising Heroes of the Month: Greta & Hattie

Greta & Hattie: The Dynamic Duo of Discovery

This November, TNT is celebrating two tiny but mighty heroes, Greta and Hattie! These best friends have grown together from curious crawlers to confident little movers, showing that bravery, friendship, and joy are superpowers all their own.

For Coach Malana, who has worked with the girls since they were babies, watching their growth has been nothing short of magical. “It’s incredible to see how much they’ve developed physically, socially, and emotionally,” she shared. “They’ve gone from mastering their first rolls and wobbly steps to climbing, jumping, and exploring the gym with fearless excitement.”

Greta, whose superpower is curiosity, approaches every new activity with wide-eyed wonder, while Hattie, whose superpower is positivity, brings sunshine to every class with her smiles and encouragement. Together, this “Dynamic Duo of Discovery” inspires their classmates to sing louder, try harder, and cheer each other on.

Both girls embody TNT’s mission of unlocking potential through movement, learning that each tumble, giggle, and high-five helps them grow stronger inside and out. Their parents couldn’t agree more, sharing stories of their daughters singing circle-time songs at home, showing off new skills, and inspiring joy in everyone they meet.

Greta’s mom reflected, “She’s so curious about the world; always eager to explore, even if it means a few bumps along the way.” And Hattie’s mom added, “Her confidence and happiness are contagious. Watching her face light up when she walks into TNT reminds me why we’re so thankful for this program.”

As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re reminded that gratitude often shines brightest in the smallest moments: the first jump on the trampoline, a brave step into a tunnel, or a shared giggle between friends. Greta and Hattie remind us all that growth is best when it’s shared — and that every great hero’s journey begins with a single, joyful step.

Every hero has an origin story, and for Kaycee, her journey to TNT is nothing short of inspiring. With a background in special education and years of experience as a para, she knew she wanted more, not just for herself, but for the athletes and families she worked with. While studying in college, she also discovered a love for CrossFit, which gave her the courage to take a leap of faith and apply for TNT.

“I thought I wasn’t qualified, but I knew it was a blessing,” she says.

For Kaycee, inclusion through movement isn’t just a mission statement; it’s personal. With over a decade of experience working with the special needs community, she’s seen firsthand the power of movement.

“We can move, think, and speak differently in many ways,” she explains. “With movement, we can adapt, find new ways, and make it powerful and fun. It’s about getting outside the box and being creative.”

Her dream for TNT’s inclusion programming? To help athletes reach goals both inside and outside the gym.

“That might mean getting a job, running or walking a 5K, or simply becoming more independent. My goal is to keep growing athletes and programs that make those dreams possible.”

In her new role, Kaycee is also excited to take on the challenge of building community partnerships. For her, these relationships are more than networking; they’re opportunities to open doors.

“When connecting with other organizations, we want to show them that TNT is one of the best companies to work with, and that our mission stands strong.”

But don’t let her professional side fool you, Kaycee also has her superhero alter-ego. In high school, her nickname was “Kaycee Smash,” and if she had powers, she’d choose both strength and the ability to fly. Come October, you might catch her dressed up as She-Hulk or Lady Thor, embodying her favorite Marvel heroes. And if you need a boost of energy? Ask Kaycee about her signature protein coffee creation - ice cream sandwich flavor included!

Something most people don’t know about her? Before TNT, she was a competitive baton twirler and even competed in pageants, which helped her break out of her shy shell as a child.

“I never thought I’d be in a role like this,” she admits. “I was a student on an IEP all through school and never believed I could be a leader or manager for a company. Being at TNT has helped me grow not only as an employee but as a person, too.”

Kaycee’s story is a reminder that heroes aren’t born; they’re built through resilience, passion, and the courage to keep growing. TNT is lucky to have her smashing barriers and lifting inclusion higher every day.

Rising Hero of the Month: Jackson

Jackson Hayden - Athlete of the Month

Every hero starts their journey with a single step, or in Jackson’s case, a single rep. This month, we’re celebrating Jackson Hayden as TNT’s Athlete of the Month for his dedication, growth, and unstoppable determination in our No Limit Fitness program.

When Jackson first started, he was a little hesitant about the gym. New movements can be tough, and routines take time to build. But now? He walks in, heads straight to the machines, and gets to work; confident, focused, and ready to conquer whatever challenge comes his way.

“Jackson has made so much progress,” shares Kaycee, his coach. “He’s the kind of athlete who does his best every time, no matter what’s thrown at him. I’m really proud of how his confidence has grown.”

One thing that makes Jackson extra special is how he communicates through sign language. Kaycee says it’s been a joy learning to sign alongside him. “It’s fun for me to learn new words, and it motivates me to keep improving. Jackson reminds me how many ways there are to connect and communicate.”

If Jackson had a superhero alter ego, his power would be super strength, just like the Hulk. And honestly, we’d agree. Between his growing confidence, his determination, and his strong spirit, Jackson embodies what it means to be a true TNT hero.

Keep smashing those goals, Jackson, we’re proud of you!

Outside of work, Roxianne’s happy place is lakeside with her family — fishing for walleye, soaking up sun, and creating memories. It’s how she recharges before the school-year hustle begins. And if TNT ever hosts a

Rising Hero of the Month: Paige

A Young Leader Who Lifts Others Up

At TNT, heroes don’t just wear capes — sometimes, they wear leotards or summer camp t-shirts. This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Paige Bakken as our Rising Hero of the Month for her unstoppable positivity, leadership, and resilience both in gymnastics and at No Bummer Summer.

Paige has a reputation in the gym for being the kind of teammate who shows up for others no matter what. Even when she’s struggling with a skill herself, she doesn’t let it dim her light. “She stayed positive and was always there to encourage her teammates through their own struggles,” shares her coach, Ashley. “That kind of support makes a big difference — it shows what kind of leader she really is.”

Over the past year, Paige’s skills and confidence have grown tremendously, but what stands out most is her mindset. She doesn’t shy away from challenges, is always open to feedback, and never gives up until she figures things out. “Paige is resilient, positive, and supportive,” Ashley adds. “She holds herself accountable and sets the tone for her teammates, especially during competitions when she helps calm nerves and boost confidence.”

That same spirit carries into TNT’s No Bummer Summer program, where Noah, one of her teachers, has watched her shine as a leader. “Her confidence has grown significantly since last year,” he says. “She’s strong, creative, and kind — the kind of student who actively includes others and goes out of her way to do the right thing. I hope younger students learn to have Paige’s work ethic.”

Whether she’s on the mat or at summer camp, Paige is proof that true leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room — it’s about lifting others up, showing resilience in the face of challenges, and leading by example.

Congratulations, Paige! TNT is lucky to have you as a role model and rising hero.

Master of Connection and Champion of Inclusion

If there’s one thing you can count on at TNT Kids Fitness, it’s that SuperKorn, also known as Alex Piepkorn, is somewhere nearby, making someone smile, giving a high five, or grabbing his signature Monday burrito from Pancheros.

As TNT’s Special Needs Department Manager, Alex brings more than just organization and leadership to the table; he brings heart. His superhero name, SuperKorn, is more than a nickname. It represents his superpower: connectability. Whether you’re five or fifty-five, Alex has a way of instantly making you feel seen, heard, and included.

You’ll know when he’s in action because his personal theme song, “Levels” by Avicii, is playing in his head, and maybe even on the speakers if you're lucky. It’s his go-to jam for getting things done, especially when leading his team into a new season, camp, or special event.

This 4th of July, Alex says if TNT had a parade float, it would be full of individuals of all abilities moving in their own way—celebrating the idea that movement is for everyone. And if he had his way, the gym would turn into one giant “Wipeout”-style obstacle course for the ultimate Independence Day challenge. (Honestly, we’d love to see that too.)

But behind the jokes and playlist-worthy energy is someone with a deeply rooted passion for inclusion. Alex’s love for TNT started close to home—with his brother, Will, who has special needs and has experienced firsthand the joy and empowerment that comes through TNT’s programs. “Will is my real-life hero,” Alex says. “He’s one of the main reasons I started working here. Seeing what TNT did for him made me want to do the same for others.”

Alex defines inclusion as more than a value, it’s a lived experience. He lights up when telling stories of kids at camp remembering his brother by name, celebrating shared trampoline time like it was a badge of honor. “That’s inclusion,” he says. “That’s community.”

If he could give every TNT athlete a superpower, it would be empathy—the ability to understand others, step into their shoes, and respond with compassion. It's the kind of power he uses every day.

“TNT is an awesome place that serves individuals of all ages and abilities. It’s changed my family’s life, and I’m proud to be part of helping it change others’ too.”

Whether he’s building relationships with students, hyping up the team, or dreaming of 4th of July obstacle courses, SuperKorn reminds us that true heroes don’t always wear capes; sometimes, they wear TNT polos and carry burritos.

Captain Connect: Spreading the Power of Inclusion, One School at a Time

When Kathy walks into a school, it’s not just another visit—it’s a mission. Known affectionately by her superhero name Captain Connect, Kathy doesn’t wear a cape (well, not every day), but she does carry something just as powerful: the ability to truly listen. And when she listens, magic happens.

As the lead advocate for ABLE in School, Kathy isn’t just selling a curriculum; she’s helping schools unlock a movement. “ABLE in School isn’t a program you add on to meet a checkbox,” she says. “It’s a peer-to-peer curriculum that redefines physical education by prioritizing movement, mentorship, and meaning.”

What makes ABLE in School unique? It’s built for all students; those with disabilities and those without. Through inclusive, functional movement and cooperative learning, it teaches students how to move their bodies and their hearts. It cultivates leadership, empathy, confidence, and resilience in every participant.

“Educators often think ABLE is just for students with special needs,” Kathy shares. “But the moment they realize it helps every student grow—that’s when I see the lightbulb go off. That’s the ‘aha’ moment. ABLE teaches connection, and that’s something every school needs.”

Kathy’s sidekick on many of these school missions is none other than ABLE Games Director Nate Hendrickson, whose boundless energy and connection with students bring the curriculum to life. Together, they demonstrate what belonging through movement really looks like—and how powerful it can be in transforming school culture.

What Does ABLE in School Do?

           •	Provides a ready-to-use, standards-aligned physical education curriculum that fosters inclusion.

           •	Empowers peer partners to support students of all abilities through guided activities.

           •	Builds confidence, empathy, and leadership in students.

           •	Delivers measurable outcomes in functional movement and social-emotional development.

           •	Offers training and resources to support educators with real-life implementation.

And it’s not just theory; Kathy has seen real transformation. “One of my favorite parts is watching peer mentors interact with students with special needs. They form genuine bonds. After class, many of them tell me they want to go into special education. That’s not just impact - that’s legacy.”

Why Should Your School Join the ABLE Movement?

Because every school deserves a PE program that reflects its commitment to equity and growth for every learner. Because your students deserve to experience the joy of belonging. Because ABLE doesn’t just support a few students; it changes the way all students see each other and themselves.

ABLE in School is already making waves across the region and Kathy’s dream is to take it nationwide. “I imagine a day when every school in America sees inclusion not as a challenge, but as the standard and ABLE is the reason why.”

So the next time Kathy laces up her sneakers and heads into a gym, she’s not just visiting, she’s building a future where every student is seen, valued, and included.

SOARing Into Leadership

At TNT Kid’s Fitness, every child has the chance to unlock their superpowers—and Brooke and Rylee are perfect examples of what happens when kids are empowered to grow, lead, and soar.

As proud (almost) graduates of our SOAR (Students of All Abilities Respected) after-school program, Brooke and Rylee have transformed from participants into role models. Throughout their time in SOAR, they’ve embraced everything the program stands for: inclusion, choice, confidence, and connection.

During daily gym rotations, Rylee often takes the lead—stepping up to coach younger kids through gymnastics stations with enthusiasm and encouragement. It's a powerful thing to witness: a student becoming a leader and using their experience to lift others up. Brooke also shines by bringing joy and friendship wherever she goes. Both girls love that they get to choose activities that interest them, meet new friends, and try new things every day.

Coach Noah, who helps manage the SOAR team, shared how meaningful it is to watch students like Brooke and Rylee thrive. “One of the coolest things is watching older kids like Rylee step into a teaching role naturally. When you see them guiding others with patience and pride, you know the program is doing exactly what it’s meant to do.”

From school pickups to gymnastics games, SOAR is more than just an after-school program—it’s a launchpad for students of all abilities. And with young leaders like Brooke and Rylee paving the way, the future is looking super.

Hero Behind the Cape: Amber - Code Name: Event Maestro

Turning To-Do Lists into Triumphs and Smiles into Superpowers

If there’s a heartbeat behind every big moment at TNT and the ABLE Games, it just might be Amber — our very own Event Maestro. With a clipboard in one hand and iced coffee in the other, she’s the kind of hero who doesn’t wear a cape — but probably has a spare one ready for anyone who needs a boost.

Amber’s superpower? Transforming chaos into harmony. Event Maestro swoops in to solve problems, arrange every detail, and ensure every event is a smashing success!

“My top Strengths Finder skill is Maximizer, which is all about focusing on strengths to achieve excellence and transforming something strong into something superb.” Whether it’s coordinating hundreds of volunteers, recruiting generous sponsors, or mapping out every last detail in Asana like a seasoned strategist, she brings clarity, focus, and (always) joy to every corner of the operation. Her “can-do” attitude is contagious — and when Amber’s in the room, solutions appear, smiles multiply, and checklists practically check themselves off.

While the spotlight often shines on the athletes, Amber thrives just behind it, making sure everything runs smoothly so others can shine. “Being a hero behind the cape means heroes may not always be visible but the work they put in and the strengths they bring to the team is integral to the outcome,” she says.

During this year’s ABLE Games, she orchestrated the entire volunteer experience, supported athlete care, led event logistics, and kept the show moving — even when a last-minute emcee cancellation could’ve thrown a wrench into the flow. (Cue Nate Hendrickson, stepping in like the hero he is, and our other spotlight for this month — teamwork at its finest.)

But it wasn’t the spreadsheets or ceremonies that hit her hardest. It was the moment a parent, tears in their eyes, thanked her for giving their son a chance to compete — something they once thought impossible. “That,” Amber says, “is why we do what we do.”

To Amber, inclusion isn’t just a mission — it’s a movement. One powered by community, fueled by passion, and built by everyday heroes just like her.

         Nate’s Vision for Inclusion

When Nate walks into a room, you don’t just see leadership — you feel it. Maybe it’s the playful energizer bunny aura, the calm confidence, the way he makes everyone feel seen, or the fact that he truly believes in the power of inclusion. If he were a superhero — and many at TNT would argue he already is — his name would be “See All.” Not because he needs X-ray vision or telepathy, but because he has the rare ability to truly notice people: to see a need, understand it, and act.

That, in Nate’s eyes, is what makes a hero.

This month, as TNT Kids Fitness & Gymnastics celebrates the massive success of ABLE Games, we wanted to highlight one of the many passionate people behind it. Nate’s not the type to take center stage (unless he's stepping up to save the day) — in fact, he spent most of the weekend shaking hands, cheering on athletes, and keeping spirits high from the floor to the podium. But behind his easy smile and black coffee, is a mission that runs deep.

A Mission Bigger Than a Moment

“To me, inclusion is more than bringing someone into a space,” Nate says. “It’s helping each person recognize the value they bring to the group.”

ABLE Games has evolved from Fargo Mania, a CrossFit fitness program, into one of the Midwest’s most inclusive fitness competitions. The idea stemmed from now retired NFL player, Connor McGovern, having a heart for an inclusive cause. And while he credits his co-leader Leslie and the event team for the heavy lifting of planning, Nate has long been the emotional compass. He’s the “soundboard” behind the logistics. The support. The cheerleader. The heartbeat.

When asked about his favorite part of the event, he can’t pick just one. That’s not Nate’s style. Instead, he talks about the love — the pure, human kind that shows up when athletes support each other, when volunteers cheer like family, when inclusion doesn’t feel like an initiative but like a natural part of who we are.

“It's seeing humanity in its sincerest form,” he says. “If I had to label the outcome, it’s love.”

The Real Power Behind the Games

This year, Nate stepped into a new role as an emcee, trading his usual on-the-floor athlete connection for the microphone. Still, he brought the same energy — part motivator, part celebrator, part connective thread — helping every person in the arena feel like they belonged there.

“There’s a richness this community brings,” he reflects. “People with special needs are so often seen as needing something — but they give something, too. They contribute, and they should have the chance to share their gifts just like anyone else.”

He shares moments that still bring him joy: athletes high-fiving, tearing off their shirts in celebration, or finishing a race hand-in-hand. “That nature, that drive to fully compete,” he says. “When else do they get to show this true competitive nature and spirit? At ABLE Games, no one gets left behind.”

           A Community Superpower

To Nate, movement is more than fitness. It’s daily life. It’s transformation. It’s a language of love and growth.

“If there’s even a spark — a little spark — that gets someone moving more, or supporting their child to move, that’s a win,” he says. “Movement supports our psychological nature just as much as our physical health.”

           Advice From a Real-Life Hero

"If you want to be a hero for inclusion", Nate says, "don’t start with a mission statement or an Instagram post. Start with eye contact. A hello. A true desire to understand. "

“There has to be a true respect for the individuals you're seeking to include. Individuals of special needs have no need or care for your Facebook post. They have no need or care for an Instagram click or whatever.” he says simply. “You're either true or you're not. And there's no faking it. It has to start with your heart.”

         Brand New SOAR Suite

If you’ve noticed a little extra buzz in the gym lately — it’s not just the energy of our athletes. We’re installing a new floor (more updates to come on this), and are so grateful to our generous donors on Giving Hearts Day for helping us raise money for a new floor!

That's not the only change you can expect, we are expanding our space to better support inclusion through a brand-new SOAR Suite, thanks to generous grant funding from the state’s Inclusion Support Program! SOAR (Students of All Abilities Respected) is TNT's inclusive after-school and summer program designed for students of all abilities, with a lower staff-to-student ratio to provide individualized support. Through movement-based activities, friendships, and leadership opportunities, SOAR empowers kids to grow, learn, and shine together.

This exciting addition includes a dedicated sensory space designed for moments of calm when kids need a break from the gym’s high energy, complete with sound-dampening panels that create a peaceful retreat. We’re also adding a classroom-style area where participants in our SOAR and No Bummer Summer programs can enjoy more structured, station-based activities — including an art zone, movement area, and space for active bodies to keep growing.

All of our regular programming will continue without interruption during the updates. We can’t wait to welcome our athletes into this new and updated, inclusive space built just for you!
